I guess I'm going to get some new tires and wheels for the '02. Since I don't have to run all the same size tire now, I can switch to Draglites or Prostar XPs or soemthing. I'm thinking about running 15" wheels in the back, to give me more sidewall for flex.

Here is a list of "legal" size tires:

235/60R-15
255/70R-15
275/60R-15

225/50R-16
225/55R-16
235/55R-16

225/45R-17
235/40R-17
235/45R-17
235/55R-17
245/45R-17
255/40R-17
255/45R-17
255/60R-17
275/60R-17

They are all suppose to have less then 8.5" tread patch. The 275-60-50 seems quite large patch wise, but George claims it measures 8.5" and it legal. Problem is, the 275-60-15 is almost 28" tall. The 245-45-17 I currently use are about 25.68" tall. If I changed to 3.73, I think the 275-60-15 would work. Otherwise I'm looking at the 275-50-15 which is 25.83" tall, and about the same tread width as the 275-60-15.

Another thing I have to consider, is who makes what size etc. I mean a less tread Nitto might work better then a bigger tread Falken or something.

Here is a spread sheet I made with tire sizes I found on the web:
http://www.blownstangs.com/misc/Street-Stang-Tires.htm

Any thoughts on which I should go with?

Weren't you supposed to send me something?
I say go with the biggest meat they'll let you get away with. Whatever happened to "has to be on a production mustang to be legal"? In a few years they'll allow nitrous, weight reduction, fats and skinnies and turbos.

Man, they really dick you on the 15s with TALL tires. A 275/50R15 would rock

Was never really "has to be on a production mustang to be legal". Just the wheel size and tread size. The smallest width wheel you can now use is 7". Which was the smallest width avalible on the year stangs allowed in the class. And the tread size is still not suppose to be bigger then 8.5"

Technically, a 275-50-15 would be legal. If the web site I found was correct in the tread size. It shows the same same width's as a 275-60-15. George said any of the above listed are legal, and whatever else is 8.5" tread and smaller.

id run a 275 50 15

i think you would slow down with a 28" tall tire and the gears you have

only problem is the only tire that isnt a drag radila in 275 50 15 (that im aware of) is a bfg radial t/a, which isnt that sticky

seach for whichever size in 16" has the most tire selection because tread compound will give more much more traction than sidewall flex

Ya, the taller tire would hurt my gearing. But I was already considering some 3.73s. So its something to think about.

The biggest size in a 16" thats under the 8.5 seems to be a 255-50-16 (unless I go with a Comp TA, which like you say isn't very sticky).

I'm looking at www.discounttiredirect.com and www.tirerack.com
