Don't get all excited oldschoolers, it's not me. I wish it was, but it's my sister. She's looking for a 99+ GT if she can afford it and the insurance. My question is do all 99+ GT's come with traction control? That's one thing she needs because she's used to front wheel drive cars and she's a little rough with a clutch. Keep an eye out for a solid car with decent miles and minor mods.

I think all the '99-'01 base models have it as an option while the premiums have it as standard on the GT's. Then later in the yrs it became mostly standard i think, like '02-'04.

No they didn't. I have a 99 Premium that doesn't have it. I think it did become standard on the Premium at some point but I don't know what year.

I guess it was an option for all '99-'01s, but i know it became standard on premium v6's and GT's for '02-'04.

alright, thanks. She's got about 14k to spend. Also, I've been forced to say that she's not "rough" on a clutch, she just doesn't need to be spinning out on wet roads like I always used to do because my traction control was always tuned out.

For 14K she could pick up a nice s197 v6. Not sure if she is completely sold on the GT or not. Just a thought.

my friends mom bought a used '06 Mustang V6 (Heat Edition) last year for 16K and it had 18,500 miles on the odo. just a basic V6, but with 17" wheels, leather interior, roush hood scoop and spoiler and pinstriping. nice deal

I mentioned camaro or transam to her and she said she didn't want one of those ugly pieces of shit. She doesn't know anything about cars but knows that fact. Word gets around I guess.

Assuming the insurance wouldn't kill her, she can also buy a 99-01 Cobra or 03-04 Mach 1 in that price range as well. It's a good time to buy a car.

do the Machs have something special on them? like everyone i see has the most awesome sounding exhaust EVAR. ive never heard regular GTs or Cobras come close to the sound of a Mach

I think my friend has bassanis on his. and Mach 1s are DOHC engines, not sure if that makes a difference in the sound.

dutinsss
11-06-2009, 04:32 PM
it's the DOHC 4 valve head's i think that make the difference. that's probably why cobra's sound better than gt's too.

Mach 1's have the same 32 valve DOHC motor as the Cobra does, minus the Eaton S/C.

really just depends on exhaust. We used to have a comp mach and loved the way it sounded.

I think they called it screaming yellow.

Be sure and look at the body lines real close. I looked at a new one in 04 that was awful. I read on the Blue Oval forum once that the robots that hung the panels had become worn and inconsistant. That brand new one I saw loked like it had been dropped off the truck. The fit between the roof and fender was off a 1/2" from the drivers side to the passengers and the trunk lid fit was even worse. That roof fit would not be repairable if it was welded together that way.

it's got a set of Flo's on it and that is it. I'm sure it sounds good, but if it doesn't I'll make damn sure it sounds awesome if she gets it. The guy said he would drive it to Tallahassee if she was serious about buying it. It pulled a good carfax too so it's looking good.

2004 was the first year for screaming yellow, which ran until the end of the 2009 models.

but yes, check the fitment, as even mine is a bit off around the trunk.

but 11k does sound a bit low for that mileage, even in this market.

also keep in mind mach 1 insurance is gonna be different than GT insurance.

Have a dealership run and Oasis report on it to see if any/all recalls have been taken care of.

Well she finally got it! I took her for a spin today, man do I miss driving a sports car. I ran through 3rd on N 27, it feels strong. It does need a short shifter and some tires. Anybody know of somebody selling a short shifter?
