I've had a long and hard vehicle search and found a car I like, a 2003 Monte Carlo SS Supercharged. It has 73k miles. I have been reading over at clubgtp and I am lost.
I don't know if they have a system where you eventually figure stuff out but I am a tad confused where everyone keeps talking about "KR" and "Scanning". I love the internets but would love to just talk to someone that has some knowledge about the supercharged 3.8L in the MC SS / GTP.
Thanks,
Ryan

KR is knock retard and scanning refers to datalogging. its part of street/dynotuning a car

Thanks, Ive been reading tons of threads on this. Im just burnt out on the internet after using it for hours a day looking for cars. Do you know of any good websites / resources to find this information written down? Or I can return to the forum grind. heh
Thanks for the reply btw. I was confused on scanning because I kept hearing it was necessary and I wasnt sure if they were using it to constantly diagnose something. It was bugging me.
Thanks again :)

Don't worry dude, you're not alone when it comes to tuning stuff. I know some basic elements but I'm a loner on it too. Try the HPtuners forums they have tons of info.

I just saw this but if you have any questions let me know. The W-bodies are really great cars I think, the only real short coming is that the trannies can be weak especially for the S/C cars.
KR is knock reatard, the computer pulls timing to get rid of the knock/detonation. The cars can knock stock and over time will chip a piston. With no knock the motors are real strong and are easy to mod. There are scan gauges for these cars that will read out knock.
Read through some of this and it'll explain it pretty well:

Thanks for that. Read though it and definitely some good information. Sounds like the first thing to do to these cars is to get it breathing nice and easy. It looks like knock is almost a paranoia with these car's owners. It looks like my neighbors washing machine turning on could possibly cause knock as it turns on lol. Ill continue reading. Some of the reasons people are claiming that knock is happening just seem stupid.

That's the key to these cars is getting them to breathe before you do anything since they aren't intercooled. Really all you need is a down pipe, ZZP power log, and some kind intake. Just those right there wake the car up so much.
Lots of people just throw pullies on and wonder why the motor blows up.

You sure it's supercharged? I didn't think that the Monte Carlo was supercharged till 04+.

Really... looks like Im going to give that salesman an earful tomorrow. Rather find out now than going all the way down to Tampa and finding out >.<
Looks like you were correct. I was researching so much technical crap, I didn't look for the year. He had said it was the supercharged version. I can get the VIN, maybe anyone with carfax can hook me up ? Either the salesman is wrong, or the add is wrong.

I'd try and see if you could get shots of the engine bay to. You have a link to the ad?
This the same one? Says it's an 02

Looks like the same one. I was given this car from a friend in Tampa who stumbled across it. Looks to be the same car.
Oh well, back to the search I go. (Im so sick of looking for a car)

Take your time. Impulse buying always leads you to a better car right as you roll off the lot with "the perfect one"
