Thought I would post a pic of what used to be a 3:55 Corvette rearend after it turned into a hand grenade. I guess thats what 650+ hp to the wheels will do after several laps of beating....

....anyone need a slightly used ring and pinion? I think we could weld the diff back together and keep going.

We have not, generally it's not the gears that take the beating it's the diff that will decide to expire and then cause all the mayhem. That one had several races on it - so it was on borrowed time anyway.
I'll take any advice I can get on the things - rears and transmissions are like black magic to me. I know for road racing the lash has to be set-up much looser than on a street rear, but beyond that...I'm pretty much clueless for the time being.

Is it a Dana 44 or 10 bolt? The good D44 diff is a powerlok.

We use the 10 bolt rear from the big block cars.

The Eaton Posi seems to be what's in these days with the RR crowd.

why would you set the rear looser in a more extreme environment?

Reduce the heat build-up - totally different animal than setting up for the street or drag racing. The looser lash tolerance dissipates the heat better which makes it easier on the clutches.

Run a cooler.
Yeah - could do that, that means - cooler, pump, hoses, switches more other stuff to break during a 3 hour beating...but definately an idea.

What can break, will. The alumn dif covers that have the fins are supposed to help some. That might be a more reliable option to keep it a little cooler.
I just hate having a sloppy backlash so I would try to cool it down more than run it loose.
