On my way home from my friends house i manage to lose control around a corner on my bald ass tires and took out a telephone pole along with a big ass tree. The Z is dead and now i owe my dad $20,000. I am so fucking screwed. What else can go wrong the weekend before finals.
The radiator is gone, i bent the frame, i managed to tear one of the wheels off of the axle, broke the passanger window, but i think the motor and tranny are ok, maybe i can put them in my old truck hopefully. We'll see what happens since i just got home after totaling my car at 5am.
P.S. this also mean i'll have some parts for sale, just ask.
Hey chris, you want a converter?

Damn bro that sucks. At least youre alright. Im sure you can sell the engine/pcm/trans on ebay for ~3-4k. How bad is the rear. If you can part out some of the car, I would be interested in the brake backing plates and caliper mounts.

Holy shit man. I thought you were going to say that the car quit on you or something. Just consider yourself lucky to walk away. Tallahassee roads when they're wet are absolutely the most slick roads I've ever driven on, other than maybe iced roads in Utah.

sorry to hear that man, but at least you are ok. cars can always be replaced. And if life is getting you down, just look at it the way I do: Every day above ground is a good day.

Dude, that really does suck. Like everyone else has said, you walked away. Dude, I really hope things do get taken care of for you (insurance???). After X-mas is over, if I can sell my car, i will buy your motor. (I got an 86 firebird for it  ) Good luck man

That sucks man, glad you're ok though.
$20,000 vs. your health = you won.
That sucks about your car, but I'm glad you're OK.

 I've been where you are... it hurts. No one can know how you feel. And people telling you that at least you're okay never seems to help. The important thing to remember is that everything happens for a reason and things will come around. It may get worse before it gets better, but it will get better! (And from now on you will drive like your grandma in the rain, lol.) :D

i don't know what we are doing yet. when my insurance company comes out and takes a look at it, they'll let me know how much they will give me for it. I'm not sure yet if we are going to buy the motor and tranny back from them or not. i'll have to wait and see what they say and what my dad says.

45, but i was sleepy at 5am, kinda lost track of what was going on and when i cut the wheel hard to the right, those bald tires i had didn't do much gripping.

typically, the insurance will give you the Blue Book Value of the car minus your deductable and you keep the car, I belive your other option is they will give the blue book value minus the deduct and scrap yard and you keep the car.
That car can be fixed, how well I dont know, I worked at a body shop for a while, you looking at new door, core support hood, rear quater and alot of frame straitning, new diff, ect. Your insurance may fix it (my damage estimate, less than $8k, cant garuntee anything because I havent seen the car up close but thats the worst i can see without alot of inspection). If they fix it, ask the bodyshop guy how the chasis measurements came out (he should know what your talking about), If he tells you not good or anything like that, sell the car right away (you will never like driving it again). Like i said I havent inspected the car close but i think its repairable.
BTW that orange honda behind you did it have a "L'Orange" or somin like that sticker on the back?
Davidz28
12-08-2003, 08:57 PM
yeah, that car had an L'orange sticker on it

well, all of my nitrous stuff under the hood is destroyed. the only thing not messed up was the bottle and the bottle heater. So Greg, if you read this i've got a 15lb bottle for sale if you're interested.

Well if you buy it back, I'll probably take the front brakes off of you after XMas if you'll part with em.

 ouch. that hurts.
Wait until the insurance company tells you their estimate... my car got fixed, despite what appeared to be irreparable damage (and is just as good as new now). Try to get it in to a body shop you know and trust, that way they can try to salvage/replace the parts you had, not just have stock POS's put on (usually they'll let you pay the diff and put the better parts on). This only matters though if you're going to keep the car, if you're going to sell it I don't think it'd even be worth it to get the car from the insurance company. Usually they'll give you 80% of blue book minus your deductible and they will take the car. They'll let you buy it back for a fee. Just make sure whatever you have left in the car to sell is absolutely worth what you're going to pay to get the car back.
Just some things to keep in mind. If you have any insurance questions or whatever, just ask. I just went through this over the summer so I know what you're going through and what you're about to go through.

I'd probably take the nitrous off before the adjuster saw it... Now pimp the truck.

well the insurance is going to give us $18,625 for the car. Thats pretty good seeing as we still owe $15,000. They will sell us the car back for 3K and we can do what we want with it. Hopefully we will keep the car so i can put the motor and tranny in the GMC. But if not then maybe we'll use the 3 grand to put in a new straight six and get a paint job.

dave...oddly enough here is a video for you.
its a '81 GMC longbed vs a 97 T/A...LS1/Auto with only posi, intake & exhaust, and a little LS1edit, he had the easiest swap..all he used were some plates on the motor mounts and kept his a/c and power steering.
just curious...how many miles were on the car?
