so its been a while since i've been on a budget and since i've looked at a cell phone bill. i was on a family plan with my X at AT$T and i recently split off. my new plan/bill is around $80 after all is said and done but "all" is nothing but 400 regular, daytime minutes and unlimited text and insurance. the 400 minutes is 40.00, unlimited text is 20.00, insurance is 5.00 and tax is around 15.00. is this normal? does anyone know anything cheaper? thats just seems high for not that much. thanks.

Yup, I had nextel for years.. Boostmobile use's the same towers at nextel and it works good... unlimtied everything, For some reason I cant get internet on my phone...So I've got to call them about that, but the other phone internet worked good.. Texting goes through good.. Also you can use any old nextel phone for reg. phone service and some texting.. Until you find a decent priced boostmobile phone.

I went prepaid with Virgin for years and my wife still does. Our current deal with them is a straight up .18 per minute and you have to add at least $20 every 90 days. It is a good way to go if you don't talk a lot. Service is a little spotty and is through Sprint but not as bad as some I've heard about. As long as you don't do a monthly plan there is no tax except the sales tax. The wife gets by with $21.50 per month. I use to get by with $21.50 every 90 days or so. That is $20 + $1.50 tax. Anytime you get into a monthly plan they start charging communication service fees or taxes however that works. I don't know what their current plans are now. You can pick the phones up at wal mart, target, ect.

the main issue is that i dont talk that much but i text a lot though. i actually have like 300+ roll over minutes that just keep adding up because i dont use minutes. if i talked more that would be a good deal. thanks though.

My contract with Verizon expired a month ago and I was paying a few bucks more for the same plan as you. I only used them because I received a 40% discount on Verizon through my old employer, Fidelity. After I left there, I've been on a plan similar to yours and I hardly use any of the bullshit that's included. I'm going to switch to Boost Mobile, there plans seem very fair. The taxes and fees are built into the $50.00/mo price, whereas the Wal-Mart provided service doesn't include taxes, fees, surcharges etc. However, the plans are very close in price. Boost seems like their technology/available phones is on a bit of a higher level. Just my $0.02.
40% discount on verizon? damn, they only give us state employees 15%!

They have text ability but I don't know how much the current plans are. You will just have to look it up on the Virgin Mobil site. I use to top up online but the wife has her card listed with them so she can top up from the phone. You can also buy top up cards but that seems like a waste of time to me.
If you are using 300+ minutes a month the prepaid plans probably won't save you anything.

Part of the company handled the management of Verizon employee's 401k's, so I think the discount was some sort of an exchange of services between the companies. There was also a nice discount on purchasing phones/accessories, I think it was 20-25%. My biggest Verizon gripe is their customer service, I think it got worse each time I called.
