i know they are out dated but how is the picture quality compared to a plasma.

for comparison sake, what would be the visual difference between these two.

the difference even with my old DLP that messed up, and the LCD Samsung replaced it with for free....is night and day. I realize your asking about projection, and they are a step below the DLP's imo as far as picture. I think you mentioned using this tv for gaming, and a dim, hard to see picture is not what you want. the contrast ratio's and black/shadows are way better on the plasma than a projection.

i really want a bigger tv. but i really dont ever watch tv enought to spend big $ on one. but i dont want a shitty picture. maybe the new projection t/vs are good. the old ones friggen sucked balls.

edit: the tv is gone in the first link. but it was dlp

well, sounds like you are "at a crossroad". sounds like you are either gonna have to sacrifice picture quality or up your price range.

Want to buy a 61" DLP that needs to be repaired? I can tell you what it needs to be back up and running, and would be under your $450 cap.

Give techforless a call and let whoever you're talking to know what it is you're looking for. Their prices aren't set it stone and they'll often work with you, especially if theres only a few of the given item in stock.

Man.. I've got an old school 50" Mitsubishi Projection TV that is in my bonus room. It's actually got a great picture and really nice sound. Don't get me wrong. It doesn't compare to my Samsung 52" 1080p, but it is easily on par with the picture quality of any tube TV out there. They can be had for cheap... I bought mine for $250. The worse thing about it was trying to get the damn thing upstairs.

we have the 50" samsung dlp, youve been over enough to see it, it really has a good picture

its worlds better than the old shit.. a lcd is better than the dlp though.. but xbox or movies on this tv is very good (better than the one you had in the room lolz)

I disagree with this...The colors on plasma are very rich and the blacks are very deep.

does anyone know who can repair a projector tv? i had one given to me over the weekend. it makes some noise but no picture. lol probably not even worth fixing.

Probably cost more to fix it than its worth.

Or you could buy my DLP and have it working for either $60 or $75 dollars depending on which kind of hook ups you use.

You're in luck! Meaning, I work for Samsung and a 42" 720P Plasma HDTV is $442.86 + tax & shipping.

Best of luck, and if you decide to purchase a Samsung product, let me know before you pull the trigger. I typically save anywhere between 40-60% off of MSRP. Including the new Samsung LED 3D televisions.

I'd definitely agree. Very vivid colors, very black blacks, and none of the blur that can happen on LCDs during really fast scenes. The 240Hz engines fixed the blur part for the most part though, but kind of made it look strange to some people. We've got a 58" Samsung plasma in the living room and a 42" in the bedroom and couldn't be happier. However, once the Samsung LED 8-Series comes out in a 65" I'm getting one !

I have had a couple of the Sony rear projection LCD Grand Wega's and really like them but the light engine on both ended up getting dust in there and caused splotches on the screen. I don't know if the DLP could potentially have this problem or not, I don't know much about them.

As a friendly FYI - products in today's economic climate have a short shelf life in big box retailers. There are currently 32 different LCD units in the North American market. How does the patent infringement (I'm assuming you're referring to the Sharp case) impact the quality of a Samsung LED lit television? Please clarify your comment so I can understand or address any concerns you have? I'd rather educate vs. putting down a product for no apparent reason.

I'm glad you're enjoying your set, I like to ensure every customer is taken care of.

My only real concern would be, if Sung will continue to provide software enhancements/upgrades for my now defunct set that is involved in a patent infringement suit. Sung is a good company and Im sure they will take care of their customers and honor any warranty/repair issues. You know if the 2009 8000 series will support any of this new 3D stuff?

ps.

How the hell can i turn off the backlite on the remote control? (Its not in the manual) I have to replace the battery every 3 months.

If there are any questions/concerns, please feel free to PM me.

My intentions were to offer the original poster a discount on Samsung products, and not a response thread to those with questions regarding my companies policies or product support.

My apologies to the o.p.!
