Ok, I am at my wits end with this damn truck. I know it is gonna be a large amount of cash, but who knows who can do great work on the 7.3. I am gonna look into either having it rebuilt of buying a long block in the future and think I would feel more comfortable with a shop doing the work. Also, please don't tell me ford, cause they are out of the question. Also, Benjamen, I have read somewhere you don't recommend shivers diesel, care to pm me about the subject. Everyone at work tells me they do good work, but when I called them he didn't sound too confident about rebuilding it.....

I think I have found a 7.3 man down in fort pierce, fl so may end up getting it to him. powerstrokepro.com. He has been building them forever and knows the 7.3

Sucks, the 7.3 is such a good motor. How many miles on it?

i'll PM you, and to long stroke, you are correct that the 7.3 is a SOLID motor. the main problem is people wanting more power, i am NOT pointing fingers at anyone BUT using programmers, and or stacking programmers that add timing on top of programmers that add timing adds WAY too much timing and the 7.3 WILL NOT last with 40-50* of timing, in comparison my dodge will have between 16-20* of timing once it is put back together.
my recommendation is Kevin up at Southland Diesel here in Thomasville. he is directly behind Wal-mart in a warehouse area. i can not comment on his employees but HE knows a 7.3 very well and has an impressive OBS 7.3 that was on 52's IIRC but it would scat.....

tell him i sent you, you might have to tell him the guy with the orange and black dodge cause he isn't very good with names. i don't know how fast he is, i don't know how much he charges but i do know on 7.3's he knows how they tick and how to work on them. BUT don't talk to anyone but him cause i do know there are a few wrench turners there i wouldn't let work on my push mower... and there were some hotties that were in the office last time i was there.
other than that there may be some small shops around here that can work on them, none of then i will personally recommend due to not knowing their quality of work.
and on the Shiver deal, they are shady, not the company but a few indivduals that i have dealt with and if they work that way and treated me that way then there is no telling how shady their work is.

thanks ben , and I agree the 7.3 is a solid motor but only when maintained properly. When I bought the truck I didn't have a clue about these rigs but have come to find out that this truck has major blow by issues and wish I would have taken someone along with me at the time to look her over. Compression is lower on all cylinders than should be if properly maintained and number 4 is around 290psi when it should be 350 or higher. Oh well, love the truck and after it is all said and down I will have 14k invested and that still insn't too bad for a damn good clean truck.
