sooooo I went to get a new alternator from them and I had them test it to make sure it was good. It didnt work at all. So they give me another and tested it and it worked.
We get the damn thing in my car (pain in ass) and after tightening the belt, its starts and i drive it around the neighboorhood. This one is messed up too, it drops to like 8-9 volts whenever I turn on the a/c.
anyways anyone ever had any pep boys problems?

thats it

u sure the belt isn't slippin when driving cause that can cause it not to charge up so when un turn on another thing on in the car it goes real low.

what is the condition of your battery? i know it should matter , but older forda have problems with the volts when you first turn your a/c on , it falls alot hte creaps back up. i notice my f250 does this to after i havnt driven it in awhile. does the voltage jus stay low or does it creep back up in a min or so ? maybe your battery connections need clenaing ? we got and so does advance autozone etc , this battery / charging system checker . it checks conditon of battery and allturdnator. tells it diodes etc are ok.

the battery seems to look new. ive drivin the car for months now without problems. im charging the battery as i speak overnight to see if it will hold a charge at all and to see if there is a lose ground/ electrical problem. When the ac is on, it doesnt creep back up. hopefully pep boys will work out some sort of deal with me.

the belt isnt slipping at idle, i still need to tighten it a little bit at higher rpm it sqweaks a tiny bit

that could be the problem it loose at high RPMs thats where ur alternator is goin to get the most charge. I would try that before takin it back to pepboys and check the battery like ur already doin.

ya we'll see what it does tomarrow morning, that is if my garage isnt on fire.
it should still charge somewhat while idling tho?

if you hold the revs at about 2500-3000 do the volts come back up? if it the alternator is bad it won't, but if it does the alternator is good, but then not coming back up could be another problem too... but its something to do. just have the people check it.

It will somewhat charge but take longer to charge anything up of course due to the lack of RPM's

Even if the other charging components are still working after the failed part is removed, the overtaxing of the component(s) that survive(s) the failure will often weaken it. I've found that when one element of the system goes bad, the others aren't usually far behind.

Charging system failures happen before the car stops running, and aren't always immediately evident. Since the problem doesn't rear its head right away, you keep driving while one part of the system is wearing down the others. Usually when an alternator goes, you don't notice it until the battery almost completely discharges. When this happens, you've overtaxed the battery and it may be permanently damaged, no longer able to hold a strong charge. Similarly, when a battery goes bad, the alternator just sees that the battery isn't holding a full charge so it just keeps charging and charging away trying to fix the problem, only to quickly wear itself out too.

Get the whole system looked over as mentioned above just to make sure. Don't forget to check the voltage regulator (if your car has a separate one).

Bo knows PepBoys. Alternators and starters, ask him. I think he's only replaced his starter like ten times.
