Weather permitting, we're (dad and I, and 2 others) going spearfishing tomorrow (grouper and snapper mainly). This is only the second time all year we've had a chance to go, and the first time sucked. Anybody have any pointers for me? I've done this before, I just don't know how to get better at it.

What's that like, you sit above and shoot into the water?

I've Neverdone It But Many Of My Buddies Have. There Is A Kill Spot, Probably The Brain, Where If Yo Hit It Right They Will Do Nothing But Start To Swim And Go Limp--if Not You Have To Hold On For Dear Life. Also Check Your Spear Tip Before Shooting At Something Else, Cuz You Don't Want To Lose A Big One. And Don't Be Afraid Of The Sharks--if You Are Fishing Structure, There Is Bound To Be Some.

No, we head out from St. Marks to whatever reef or structure my dad feels like heading to.

There's not a problem with hanging on, none of these fish are big enough to not be able to pull to you and stab in the head with a knife. One of the tough parts though is hitting that spot, because you don't want to have blood in the fillet, and there's a bone (cartillage I guess) in the head that doesn't let the fish rip away easily. Or so I'm told.

yeah. i fish off the front of my dad's bass boat. i have a use a recurve bow with a rod and reel attached to it. my dad and i used to go a lot but we haven't had much time lately. we generally go for mullet. they're tough to shoot but its worth it.
