My stock posi is headed south and was thinking of beefing up the old 7.5incher and was curiuos to see what you guys though. I cant really afford the 12 bolt yet so this is that I am looking at. First, I looked into spools and found that the only spool they make for the 7.5 is for 26spline axles and I have 28's. Next, I looked into Detroit lockers. This is actually what Ill probably end up with. They run abour $400 and fit stock axles. They only drawback is that lots of people bitch that they are noisey but honestly, how many of those people have a car as loud as mine? My guess is 2. Last option would be to just buy a SLP takeoff diff. for about $100 and possibly go through this again in the future. Bottom line is, Im not going to be driving the car as much as I did down there. Example, I havent touched it since I got back up here. I think Im pretty tough as far as driveability goes. Rattles, bumps, creeks, and the such dont bother me too much so I failry confident that I can handle a little clunk from a locker locking and unlocking.
Whats your take?

In all honesty, i'd just go with the SLP takeoff for $100. Anything else is just throwing away money that could have gone towards the 12-bolt.

the Eatons are rebuildable. the aftermarket units are far superior to the stock ones in f-bodies i have heard. the majority of the (chevy)truck world uses Eatons for these reasons and the earlier years were 28 splines as well. mines a Auburn 31 spline though.

Good point guys. Another question is do any of you know of any good books that I could pick up on the subject?

The detroit will also require c clip elem.'s and they ain't cheap on top of the price of the locker.
The eaton top spec is rebuildable, and the new ones do have a stronger case. You can also put different clutches in it and springs to make it agressive as you want, no other locker offers that. The top spec is one of a very few that can be rebuilt, and the new parts are not to exp.. Call reider racing or look them up on the web and tell them what you have and they will tell you all the posible combos of parts in stock for them. One more thing It is a limited slip really not a locker, but you can make it lock up with the right parts.

BTW, back on topic. Go with the SLP takeoff and then the 12 bolt when you can afford it.

good luck finding an slp takeoff. since they stopped making the fbodies, everyone stopped getting their supply of them. i know summit and jegs ran out a long time ago. the s10 guys were buying them up pretty quick as well.
