Back in 96 I was one of the lucky few that got the first sets of TFS TW Aluminum heads. I had a basic 306 arp'd balanced shortblock, and E303 cam etc. Car made decent power, but around 4k miles started smoking. When you changed the oil it was really bad when you would start it. At around 6k miles, I was making a pass at the Bainbridge 1/8 Dragstrip. And car shut off around the 500' mark. I coasted threw and on the return road it started up again to a hugh plume of smoke out the tailpipes. Come to find out the first TFS TW heads had a valve guide problem and they were going bad quick. Turned out that mine had went bad and seized a valve open meetin the piston head on. Tough to say who won. It even cracked the cyl wall. When I was taking the engine apart I found a half circle of metal, which I later found out was the valve seat. Yes, the valve seat was in the UPPER intake.
TFS made somewhat good on it and gave me cost on all parts to build a 351. And gave me a new set of TW heads.
