View Full Version : Don't shift 1-2-3-2
It isn't fun. This is what can happen, luckily it wasn't worse:

Note that this happened on maybe the fourth day I'd had the car and I was using the stock shifter. Changed my 3-4 technique and haven't missed 3-4 since.

it was the talon dont worry. I have never missed the 3-4 shift on that 6 spd. Actually i have never missed a shift in that car at all. Stock shifter. Never had any problems with it at all just a long throw.

i went 1-2-3-2 in a porsche 911, my friends' dad was out of town and i thought i could handle it since i drive a cobra. boy was i wrong, i guess i got a little too excited and thought i dropped the transmission after that unexpected downshift...
...i did learn to not underestimate a porsche. that bitch was fast!

nope--i've done the 1-2-1. it wasn't fun and i'm lucky i didn't fuck anything up--well, atleast i don't think anything inside went bad. i was probably approaching 70 when i did it. my abs inop light came on and stayed on til i restarted the car--which was in the closest parking lot.

please elaborate--i really don't here any ticking and i was told that if i had bent pushrods that i would definately know. haven't experienced anything funny since, but i may just be ignorant.
When I bent those pushrods, it ticked for a little while and then went away. I didn't have exhaust at the time, or else I probably wouldn't have noticed it. The car drove normally... I couldn't really tell anything was wrong.

so the ticking would be heard through the exhaust? cuz i think i do hear that, but i associated it with my qtec--now that my qtec is off, i still hear it sometimes :???:

Shit I was riding in my Old Pontiac Bonneville with the column shifter and went to turn and knocked it into reverse at like 25mph. The car just made a nasty noise and just turned off. I was like shit then a few minutes later it started back up ad seemed fine.

Uh, no. The noise of the exhaust would probably mask the slight ticking sound that the bent pushrods made. Your exhaust is quiet, but like I said before, it only ticked for a short time. You need to pull them out and check.

Or better yet, get a new $40 set of them and spend 30 minutes and put them in for cheap insurance.

I've done the 1-2-almost third a couple of times, and I once did a very impressive 1-2-3-4-3 when I first got the car. Nothing like dropping it in third well past 100MPH and about 6500. Thought the tranny was going to come out of the car, but so far, knock on wood, not a single bent pushrod or broken synchro.

Mark, do remember that I have cursed the car by simply working on it. Bent pushrods are inevitable. I am truely sorry.
