since he just graduated and all.

wanted me to hook up a stereo in his explorer so he was like come to the stereo shop and show me what to get and install it for me. so i was like no problem, itll give me something to do today

he already had a set of mids and highs in it, so we just need a HU and some bass.

measured everything out and built him the biggest box that would still allow some use of the rear space

and 3 fosgate HX2 12", Rockford 800 amp, and a pimp ass pioneer HU (mp3 and wma compatible) later . . .

GOOD FUCKING GOD THIS THING IS LOUD

you cant even open your eyes in the car, they just shake, its hard to breather, the dome lights and door lights fell off along with the rear view mirro, the rear windows are probably gonna shatter in the next couple weeks they move so much. we clocked down the road, i could hear it at my house when he was almost half a mile away, it is just absolutely fucking rediculous

and this is all without a cap, i didnt think he would need one but he does, even driving around the headlights dim when it hits, oh well

my parents are so pissed at me for telling what to get and hooking is up. "we didnt you just get one speaker" they asked, easy answer "i measured and three would fit, hehe"

(after doing this i think i have the itch to build the stereo up in my car again)

Damn, that sounds uncomfortably loud.

I want bass in my car too, but remember that sub and box I had? The box is too big for my tiny POS Mustang trunk. I need to get a custom box made, something that will maximize trunk space. Any idea how much that'll run me?

we can build a box no problem

It's just one 12" and a small amp.

Pleeeeeeaaaasssseeeee tell me you built him a ported box. A sealed box just wouldnt do those things the least bit of justice.

I like my 1 12" sub in my car, just enough to give it some bass. All that is just worthless unless it is in competition, there is just no need for that much bass.

Mitch used to have 4 Rockford Fosgate 15" subs in his 4 runner with 4 Amps pushing them. It hit 163dB....... :o
it was strictly for competition though and he won so many awards that it paid for itself!

RF is more or less generic. Personally I wouldve gone with Digital Designs, Shocker, MASS, or Juggernaut. But for a non-competitor HX2's are nice
I do like RF amps though, although they get so fuggin hot, you can cook eggs on them.
Make sure to put a fan it around them or at least put it in a place where it will get some air ventilation.

yeah i already told him about the fan

for the price you cant beat fosgates shit, sounds great and is relatively inexpensive

My single 12" hits 147.3db which is pretty damn loud for 1 12"

Ive heard 160db b4 and believe it or not it doesnt sound much louder than mine....the big difference is how it feels. People say they can feel the hair on their arms and neck stand up in mine, but in something like mitch's you may find yourself short of breath (literally). I cant even imagine having something like that as a DD.

Anything over 140db is extremely bad for your ears. Let me emphasize EXTREMELY. Thats why i RARELY ever play mine anywhere near its full capacity.

Are u the least bit knowledgable on Mitch's install? If so, what was his setup tuned to.
FYI, high DB setups are usually tuned very high to yield higher number however the higher it is tuned the worse it sounds. Anything over 45hz is barely recognizable as bass lol
My sub is a comp. woofer however I have it tuned to a low 33hz so it sounds somewhat decent. Had i tuned it higher I could have probably broken the 150db milestone.
