Street Tires,Stock Exhaust,Stock Suspension...12's
Monday January 24th, 2005
After reading numberous posts on several message forums regarding the 2005 Mustang GT's NOT being able to run 12 seconds in the quarter mile without suspension modifications and a huge increase in power, JMS decided to give it a shot.
Like every car JMS Chip has built or modified in the past, our 2005 Mustang GT had it's own problems to surpass before we could even think of running a 12 second quarter mile.

The first issue to over come was of course the new electronics installed from the factory. Luckily JMS Chip & Performance is a Premier Superchips Custom Tuning Certified Dealer (SCT). SCT's commitment to providing cutting edge custom calibrations for the new line of Fords 2005 vehicle line-up gave us an advantage not offered by the other chip companies. With an SCT XCalibrator in hand to tame the JMS Silver Bullet, our in house custom tuning expert Monty "Magic Fingers" Johnson went to work.

Next in line was our GT's induction system. The air box and hydra-carbon trap installed from the factory is fine for a factory vehicle, but in order to put our GT into the 12's it would have to be removed. After experimenting with several cold air kits from other companies with little success (some even lost power when installed), JMS decided to create our own. We started with a HUGE 9inch S&B filter, and then had our local machine shop CNC a new housing for the MAF electronics. While experimenting with the 'other guys' cold air kits we discovered something interesting. Most of the kits we recieved included a heavy shield that surrounded the air filter. We not only discovered these kits to be heavy, but our dyno prove our suspicisions, that they had no value other than cosmetic. There was absolutley no power increase with this shield installed and no gain was seen at the track.

After fabricating our new cold air intake system we installed a set of Underdrive Pulleys and swapped out the gears with a set of Ford Racing 4.30's. A quick round on our Mustang Dyno and we felt confident our 2005 Mustang GT Silver Bullet project car was ready for the track. We loaded up our GT on the trailer and we headed off to Hattiesburg Mississipi for some passes. After a brief burnout we lined up the Silver Bullet and pulled the trigger. Our Mustang spun a bit off the line, but the first pass wasn't a disappointment, our work netted a 12.94. After a cool down and some adjustments to the tire pressure we lined up again and laid down a 12.57 @ 106.42mph, then backed it up with a 12.51 @ 107.23mph! Still not totally satisfied our JMS sales guy Steve 'Lightning Shifter' Sisler hopped in the drivers seat again and squeezed off a 12.43 @ 107.38mph!

Having accomplished our mission we packed up and went home. Of course none of this would be possible without our hard working dedicated staff at JMS who donated their personal time in order to achieve our goal. The best part, now all of the parts we used are available to you. We have just completed our JMS Performance Packages for you too put your 2005 Mustang into the 12's!!!

OK but if we all donate 60 dollars we also each get to drive it.:)
