All right, went down to the FFW in Orlando this weekend and the car started doing something odd. It was fine when I was leaving the track Saturday night, after I had filled up the gas tank the night before with no prior ill-effects. Sat night I also did a 3rd gear roll-on with another Cobra that went to about 120 mph and didn't notice anything. But shortly after that as soon as I got into the boost with a decent load on the engine I started to hear some detonation/spark knock. The car did it all the way back to my buddies house and still did it the next morning with the car dead cold, so it's no a heat soak issue. I put some 104+ in the tank and had no real change in the condition. I have since run that tank of gas almost dry and filled up the tank again and the car is still detonating under the same conditions. This morning I pulled the codes and the only ones are the same ones I've had since I did the exhaust, rear O2 codes (they aren't in the car right now). Does anyone have any ideas? BTW, the car is a 2003 Cobra with a smaller blower pulley, cold-air, throttle body, programmer, and full exhaust, and this is the first time anything like this has happend.
Any GOOD help is greatly appreciated,
Lloyd

Did you change the plugs after you did those mods?

Disconnect your battery for about an hour. See if that helps any.

Hmmm...knocking is never good. What programmer are you using and what size pulley? Upper/Lower combo?

Stock lower with a 2.8" upper, good for about 14-15 psi. The programmer is Diablo Sport, not very happy with it though. As far as the plug questions go, still the stock plugs, but I did the mods over 8,000 miles ago, so if it was a heat range issue, they should have given me problems long ago I would think. Well, if it's not raining tomorrow morning before I go to work, I'll pull a couple of plugs to see what they look like.

Just pulled 2 plugs, gotta go to work don't have any more time, and they look like shit. I knew the car was running rich, but nothing like this. Both the plugs are soot black. The weird thing though is there is a reddish deposit on the end of both plugs, never seen anything like it before. The only thing I can think of is if the 104+ I put in there left the deposit? I also cleared the KAM while I was checking the plugs so maybe that will help.
Lloyd
Yup, the 104+ will leave reddish deposits on the plugs.

Well I believe I've got it figured out. Going on info from a friend who's a damn good driveability tech at All American I checked the boro value (it's supposed to be a minimum of 155hz), it's a little low, 27.8hz. Hence the MAF is FUCKED. He said what happened is oil from my K&N filter sucked into the element in the mass air and basicaly corn-holed the meter. So I need a new mass air. Hell, it could be worse, now all I have is an excuse to buy some new Hoo-Ha parts.
Thanks for the help,
Lloyd
U can clean the MAF with q-tips and either brake cleaner or carb cleaner (one of them leaves no residue I will always forget which is which.). Just try the cleaner first, if that doesn't do it. U can use a q-tip very LIGHTLY on the wire.

Already tried, twice. Tried swabing it first, no results, then I soaked it in cleaner fluid, still didn't work. Oh well, fuck it, I now have a perfect reason to buy a Kenne Bell!!! Don't ask me to explain the reasoning in my brain, but it makes sense to me!!!!!

Yeah, looks like you're going to need to replace your blower with a KB. Oh well, crap happens.

Was it a custome tune or the canned Diablo pulley tune?

I believe it was canned.

Original tune was the generic Diablo Sport 2.8" pulley tune. Now is a complete SCT by JMS tune-up. BTW JMS kicks ASS.
