View Full Version : My brothers truck

My brother blew his 351Modified at a mud bog here the other week. He pulled apart the motor today.
Things wrong so far:
1:Cam broken in THREE places
2:BIG ASS crack in cylinder wall. (you can stick the head of a ball-point pen in the crack!)
3:3 Bent push rods
4:2 Dropped valves
5:1 piston GONE!!! G-O-N-E!!!(Still havent found where it went to yet)
6: Other side of block looks like someone shot a piston with a shotgun!
As he has pulling the motor...Parts were falling out of the exhaust.
Edit:
PICTURES HERE FINALLY

i hate to say this being a chevy fan but build 351W. Those are pretty good high rpm engines from what ive seen. You just got to dump some serious $ into them to keep them from flying apart.

good luck turning a 460 up. I have never seen a 460 consistenly turn above 6G.
they just dont hold together like a 454 does. If you were going to put tractor tires on that truck and keep the rpms low and let the torque work for you then that will be a perfect motor. But if he turns it up..good luck not having giant holes form in the oil pan.

Not trying to start shit or turn this into a pissing match but did yalls truck cross the gator hole this past time? Where the half bread caught on fire at?
If it did, i didnt see it? That was why im asking.

I'll tell you what...ANY TIME you want to bring your truck and play follow the leader come on. I will lay a 100 dollar bill on the tail gate and you can come get it. Did any of their trucks cross the gator hole??? Nope.. Did their trucks play ALL day in B. Town then go racing that night..NOPE did yours?? Nope. All I EVER see your truck doing is either sitting on the side lines with the hood up or on a trailer...BTW Have a GREAT day

I ment that as an honest question. I didnt want to start shit, cause i really didnt know if they did crossed it or not?
I know my trucks limitations and there is no way i will try and cross the gator hole. (well, maybe in a boat). Ive seen enough trucks get lost in there to know better. Only a truck on tractor tires, like the one in NGM's sig could cross it, that is why i was asking cause i really didnt know.
btw- i think it is june 11th

no
if they could then i have never seen them do it (at least when the water is up). The blue toyota on 7ft(+/-) tractor tires is the only one ive seen come close.
Yuh, i'll race it at boggy branch. I dont have to worry about water getting into the engine there.
It is this weekend but the trailer (and truck) isnt ready, next one i'll come out there and see what kind of "race truck" coonbottom is.
I started cutting the boggers on the back so im stuck in open. I have no choice but to be in the same class.
Want to race for time or distance?

It dosent matter dude. You will lose in both of them. And the only trucks I saw cross the Gator hole Was Clint in a Ford on some huge ass tires and a swamp buggy. But it dosent matter Time or distance in the deep hole. Ours was the ONLY truck to make it thru Clarksville so I am NOT worried about you and your "cut Boggers".
coonbottom
04-23-2005, 11:26 AM
ok, if we both make it thru it will be for time. If neither of us go thru it will be for distance.
Obviously, if one of us goes thru and the other doesnt then the person who doesnt make it will be the loser. (i guess that goes w/o saying)
When is the boggy branch in May?
..and i said ive started cutting them. I need to get a tire grinder on them..they look like a dog gnarled on them right now

We are going to Clarksville tonight you are welcome to come to see what you are up against. We are racing open class against Brian Gurr to let you know we are not afraid of anybody. You can pick ANY class any track, we will bring a Silvey truck for you.

Cool, when did Brian get his new motor? I thought he was just boggin the jeep now?
I'll race the Silvey truck. Whether i win or loose i'll race it, i'll race anything! Even the Bog frog aint got shit on me!
You know the date for c-ville in May?
NotoriousGreaseMonkey
04-24-2005, 11:41 AM
To let you know what you are up against Brian ran a 10.30. That was pretty decent..Well we ran a 7.38 so if ya still wanna race I want to put 150.00 on it. I gotta make it worth our trip. The Bog Frog is not the same truck it used to be when Gene Cutchins built it. Our truck had the second best time out there. The best time was like a 6.40...BTW That was a FORD..Thats right F...O...R...D First On Race Day.

..and money? come on Frank! If you really want to put something up it would have to be better than money. Wouldn't winning your class be good enough?
Even in the outside chance i do win..bragging rights would be good enough for me.
btw- i was kidding about the bog frog. Even when they dropped the rev limit i know i would still not be able to beat it (unless it just blew up on the line). That was why i put the : lol : at the end, because i said that as a joke.

This was at boggy branch or Altha? I didnt know Brian ran at boggy branch.
He ran a 10 something at Altha also IIRC and Brent O' ran like a 5ish this past year.
(..and yes, as much as i hate to say it, Brent won it in a ford with a 460)

Altha was where the half breed blew a fuse and Brent won. Boggy Branch is the place where it is a btch to get out of the end.
That is why i will race you there...im hoping im light enough to get a few more feet on your truck.

hey coonbottom this is Melvin from Silveys I found out the best way to cut the small lugs off your boggers is with a 2" wood chisel and a pair of visegrips. Just clamp on the lugs pull up and push back and forth you allso have to dip the chisel in oil it makes it easier. Hope this helps you out.

Man we only weigh about 5000 pounds. 2.5 ton is not much heavier than 1 ton once the brakes are taken off the ends and a pinion brake is added.

that truck only weighs 5000 lbs? ...CRAP! im like 4500!
ya know, w/o brakes exactly how much does a rock weigh?
If i cut the fronts i might try that first. I took a sawzaw to the rear ones and cut them but like i said..they look like crap. Ive got a tire buffer tool for a die grinder..i just need to get around to smoothing them out.
