Its been running warm ever since I replaced my opti and had the waterpump off. I have bled the system 3 or 4 times, replaced the thermostat, both temp sensors, and topped off the radiator and it helped a little bit but never fixed it. Im afraid that I might have a blow head gasket but Im probably just over-reacting. Is there something else that I am forgetting? Im stumped.

I noticed on another post that you have over 100k miles on the car. The radiator is probably causing 85% due to being partially clogged, unless you have changed your coolant every year since you got it. If it is partially clogged, then it can be a real pain in the ass getting the system to burp out air pockets. If you notice that the temperature guage seems to jump around, and not stay constantly at a high temp, then you have an air bubble still. Steam will collect at the temp sensor and cause it to read sky high even though your engine isn't really that hot. Also, for some strange reason, I have seen a weak radiator cap cause overheating due to it not allowing enough pressure to build in the cooling system. Good luck with it. A head gasket will usually cause you to run hot under load and while driving, and will usually cool back down slightly when you are at an idle. Coolant usually will find its way into the overflow jug or will disappear.

Thanks, I changed the coolant for the first time in 3 years about a month ago. Im not sure how the previous owners maintained it. I have two bleed screws in the hoses and have tried to bleed the air out numerous times with no luch, its always striaght coolant. I have tried parking the car at different angles but still nothing. The cap is good, no cracks on the seal and holds pressure well. The needle doesnt jump around but fluxuates alot. I can be going down the road at 160 and all of the sudden Im at 200 and then Ill watch the needle go to 180 and so on. I installed a fan switch and it helps the car stay cool a little longer but after driving it a couple times for long distances, it eventually heats back up to where it is too hot. From what you said about what a failing head gasket will do, it looks like I have one but I will cross my fingers and go beat the hell out of it at the track tonight.:D

Have you actually followed the procedures in the manual for properly flushing and bleeding the radiator. If you had a blown head gasket there would be water in your oil. Your oil would look milky white.

just start throwing mods at it, maybe it will fix it :D
