I need a better 60' time and looking to find a tire that hooks better than the BF DR's. I've heard the MT Street Radials hooks even better than the Street. Any feedback?
The MT Street Radial kicks ass! On a 26x10 MT ET Drag, my best 60' has been a 1.61 60'. On the 275-50-15 Street Radial, it was also a 1.61.

The tread pattern is almost identical to my BF DR's. Ever run the BF's?
No, but 90% of the Drag Radial class guys have switched from the BFG to the MT.

the mt radial is much softer than the bfg, much much stickier
many have said it is as sticky as the mt et street.
for your application i would recommend the 26x1150x17 Mickey ET Street. can you run a 17" on the rear of your car?

Thanks guys. We'll have to see just how fast they can get here.

Discount has a 3 month wait on those tires straight from MT. Anyone know where else to get'em?
Try Mark @ 1-800-999-DRAG(3724), he sells a bunch of M/T tires on Ebay. FL Zinc got his Street Radials from him at a great price.

2 week delay but AWESOME price- $336 for 2 tires delivered (seems too cheap).
Yeah, he has some killer pricing on tires.

That's the guy to go to. I got my 275/50/15 MT ET Street Radials for $285 shipped.

Just ordered some 16" custom rims. They should barely fit over my brakes but will allow me to run a stickier tire.
Guy said that the MT Street Radial on a 16" rim in a 255 width will hook better due to the sidewalls than a BF 275 on a 18" rim. He DEFINITELY knows his stuff but I'm not much of a physics guy.
Here's the rim:

yes they are
nice choice on wheels, your baller status has now been ungraded to "extreme"
you getting the direct from ccw????

Yea, thats what the Vette guys run. Very pimp wheels, Derek! You get a set of 4 or just the rears?

Yep, CCW's. So is the whole "baller" thing bad or pimp? Just got 2 for the track.
Can someone explain those physics I asked about?

baller is good, its all about the bling (hence my uber expensive drag wheels)
as for tire selection:
slicks are bial ply, the bfgs and all other "stree" tires are radials
bias ply slicks are wrinkle wall. this means they have very soft sidewalls, off the wheel you can actually smush the tire pretty much flat.
if you left the air outta a radial, the center of the tread caves in since the sidewalls are much stiffer (safer for everyday driving), when you let the air outta a slick the sidewalls give and the tread (contact patch) stays flat
now for the sizes
your 18s are 26" tall and have a very small sidewall so when you hit the gas, the wheel spins, the sidewall spins, the tread spins. nothing flexes or gives (great for handling and safety).
the 16" will be 26" tall still, but that give you an extra 1" off sidewall per side. not only that but since they are bias ply slicks they have very soft sidewalls. so when you hit the gas the wheel spins, the sidewall begins to spin but then it flexes and twist which absorbs the shock of the initial wheel spinning, and then the tread spins. this absorbtion of the initial shock helps to avoid tire spin. some drag radials will do this as well but not as much as slicks

I like sidewall crinkle...A LOT!!!!
And Ryan, thats about the best worded explaination Ive heard regaurding "sidewall flex". :tu:

Thanks Ryan. So do you agree that a 255 MT Street Radial on a 16" rim will outperform a 275 BF DR on a 18" rim?

if your going all out dont even fuck with the "MT street RADIAL"
yes a 16" mt radial will outpeform the 18 bfg radial
BUT
you get 16" so you can put slicks on them
if your getting an 8" wide wheel get the 26x1050x16 et streets, if your getting 10" wide wheels get the 26x1150x16 et streets.
they will hook better

I've heard from some folks (Tony maybe?) that the MT Street Radials hook as good if not better than the MT Streets. I also don't want to run skinnies up front. Whatcha think?

personally i would go with et streets rather than radials, but thats just me
Tally TransAm

but if your not running skinny's it is a little safer to go with the radials as the car tends to behave a little better on the big end
however i think youll be fine either way

How much abuse will the rear in that car take?

How much abuse will the rear in that car take?all i know is i've seen derek do at least one "one-wheel-peel." it was the first night he had the nitrous, even though we could not get it to work.

et streets..not everyone can get the "tony effect"(1.6's-1.7's) out of the radials

I'm going with the Street Radials. I don't feel like messing with skinnies right now or mixing the tires.
As for the rear end, no idea. The one wheel burnout was a weird deal. The Kleemann LSD is simply two gears that lock up, each with 4 big springs holding them in place. It should either WORK or FAIL. Since that night, both tires have been spinning on the burnout.

haha, Doesnt' take the "tony effect" to get good 60's on the M/T D/R's. About every race this year I've been too, all the cars are now running M/T D/Rs. :)

What PSI are you running them at?
I have them at 15 psi now. But I've tried anywhere from 13 to 17 and its not made a big difference.
