I always baby it in the rain but that wasn't enough today. I was coming home from my Barbri class on the turnpike and had just come through the far left Sunpass lane at roughly 30mph. It had just begun to rain lightly. I was in 4th gear and was accelerating gradually, I was probably 200 yards from the toll plaza when all of a sudden I felt the tires break loose. There was a car right next to me and I managed to avoid him, but the ensuing fishtail whipped me into a 4-wheel slide into the guardrail at about 45mph.

Paramedics arrived quickly, there was an ambulance that came through the toll behind me and they stopped. I got out of the car right away and I was all shaky, then about 3 minutes later I started feeling lightheaded and my neck and back started to hurt pretty badly. They put me in a neck brace and strapped me on this evil backboard where I spent the next 2 hours, it sucked. It happened around 1pm and I was at the hospital until about 6:30. I have a pretty bad sprain in my neck, and muscle spasms. They said it'll probably get worse, but I don't know.

I had to get some things out of my car for class tomorrow so my dad took me over to the tow lot, and I snapped some pics of the damage with my phone. Hood, front bumper, and driver side fender are done. There may be some frame damage as well, which will probably determine whether or not they total the car. If the frame is ok, I think it's fixable. Also, the airbag didn't deploy, which worries me.

All in all, I'm just glad that I'm not dead and that no one else was injured or involved. If I had been another 20 yards ahead, I would have slid right across into northbound turnpike traffic.

Holy crap that sucks Jon. Glad your okay... more or less. Car can be fixed. These cars can be a handful in the wet, had a similar experience and got away with only a bent spindle, flat tire, and a 200 heartbeat. Best of luck.

glad to hear you are doing fair. I know you will be sore for a while and if another part of the car hit the guardrail other than the front then that would be the reason airbag didn't deploy

Glad you are alright. Sucks about the car, but that can be fix.

Oh that is a sad sight! But like everyone said, its good you made it out, and I hope you get better quickly. Did they say if there would be any long term issues, like with neck pain or headaches and such? I certainly hope not!

Glad to hear you are semi-ok. Cars can be fixed. That car does not look like a total. I have an '01 SS in my shop being fixed that is hit much harder than yours. Just to let you know, the air bags should not have deployed in this accident. This is because you did not hit the guardrail dead-on. The air bags are desigend to deploy when it detects an impact within 30 degrees of the centerline of the vehicle. Sometimes, they deploy at other times. Hell, I have seen a car that was rear-ended have the airbags deployed. Where is the car located? Which insurance company is going to cover it?

good luck with them not totaling it jon, and glad you're ok.

Thanks for the kind words, guys.

vortechstang- Thanks for the info on the air bags. The consensus seems to be that it appears to be fixable, but with all the cosmetic damage it's tough to tell from the pics. If the upper shock mount and the k-member mount are ok, I would think it's fixable, assuming there's no other damage to the frame.

Edit- The car is in Miami, I have full coverage through State Farm and the car is being looked at tomorrow by a reputable shop we've been using for years.

Well, if they decide to have it fixed, I can have it towed to my shop in Newberry. If you need references, just ask Cary00silver or Bullhead00 on here, They can vouch for my shop and the work we do. I am a direct repair shop for State Farm, Progressive, and Met Life.

Glad to hear you are doing ok. I do not think they will total it, I wrecked my 2000 v6 firebird a few years back and it was in much worse shape than that and they still fixed it and it was only a firebird. A lady pulled out directly in front of me and I t-boned her at 45mph. Airbags didnt deploy and it was a straight on impact. Needed a bumper, hood, both fenders, rad support and radiator, and some work on the doors since it pushed the fenders into them. 5000 dollars worth of work at the dealership on a car that was valued at 8000 at the time of the crash. Still do not know why they didnt total it....
